Zaisei
A personal finance platform built around how you actually think about money — not how apps want you to.
About the project
Zaisei is a personal finance app for people who want to understand their money without turning budgeting into a second job. Most money apps are built for the first week — the satisfying setup, the colourful charts — and then quietly fall out of your life. Zaisei is built for the long haul: the more it learns about how you actually earn, spend, and save, the more genuinely useful it becomes.
The problem it solves
Two kinds of finance tools dominate the market. The first asks too much of you: manual entry, rigid categories, a weekly ritual of reconciliation that almost nobody keeps up. The second asks too little and tells you nothing — a pretty balance and a pie chart that never changes your behaviour. Zaisei sits in the gap. It captures the full picture of your finances with as little friction as possible, then turns that picture into plain-language insight you can act on.
What you can do with it
At its core, Zaisei keeps a faithful record of your accounts, transactions, budgets, and recurring commitments. You can snap a photo of a receipt and watch the transaction appear and fill itself in. You can set budgets that reflect how you actually live rather than a textbook 50/30/20 split. And you can see, at a glance, where the money really goes — including the slow, easy-to-miss subscriptions and creeping recurring charges that quietly add up.
The guiding idea is honesty. Zaisei never pretends to be a financial adviser or nudges you toward products it earns a commission on. It shows you the truth about your money and trusts you to make the call.
Who it's for
It's for the person who has tried three budgeting apps and abandoned all of them — not because they don't care about money, but because the tools made caring feel like a chore. Zaisei is deliberately calm, fast, and quiet. It does its work in the background and only speaks up when something genuinely deserves your attention: an unusual charge, a budget about to tip over, a bill that's larger than last month's.
Where it is today
The foundations — accounts, transactions, budgets, categories, and recurring rules — are solid and in daily use. Receipt capture works. The next chapter is making the app smarter about reading messy bank descriptions and importing statements automatically, so that the picture stays complete with even less effort from you. Zaisei is a long-term project by design, and it's being built the way it asks you to manage money: patiently, and for the long run.
